The current trend in digital photographic workflow is to take all images in color and covert chosen frames to monochrome. Being from the film-age, I still compose an image in terms of whether or not it warrants color and make the decision before I open the shutter. There are times when I will shoot the same thing in both color and monochrome. However, some images have shapes and textures that are the focal point. When shot in color, they lose impact as the eye is distracted by the color palette. It is the absence of color that makes these images interesting.
